For many applications a coiled tether is ideal as it offers the benefit of length without the requirement for space or a mechanism for handling the slack for what is used. Coiled tethers are typically made from urethane or vinyl, each of
which has advantages. Vinyl is typically a bit less expensive but does not have the strength or "memory" that urethane does. Urethane is only marginally more expensive but is much stronger and has superior "memory", or ability to retain is shape and elastic properties.
